LinkedIn advanced search isn't a separate page anymore — LinkedIn retired the old standalone "Advanced Search" screen, and today "advanced search" means running a normal search and then opening All filters to narrow results by people, jobs, companies, and more. For people search, that filter panel lets you refine by connection degree, current and past company, job title, location, industry, school, and keywords, and you can layer Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT, quotes) on top for real precision. The genuinely advanced filters — seniority level, company headcount, years in role, recent job changes — live in Sales Navigator, not the free search. This guide covers exactly which filters you get where, how to combine them, and how to reach the depth people remember from the old advanced search.
Where "advanced search" went
If you're looking for a button labeled "Advanced Search," you won't find it — LinkedIn folded it into the main search years ago. The replacement flow:
- 1.Type anything into the search bar and press Enter.
- 2.Click a result-type tab (People, Jobs, Companies, Posts…).
- 3.Click All filters to open the full filter panel for that type.
Everything the old advanced search did — and more — lives in that All filters panel now. For the wider picture of every search type, see our complete LinkedIn search guide.
Every people-search filter (free account)
Open All filters on a People search and you can narrow by:
- Connections — 1st, 2nd, 3rd+ degree.
- Connections of — people connected to a specific person.
- Locations — country, region, or metro.
- Current company / Past company.
- Industry.
- School.
- Profile language.
- Open to / service categories (where available).
- Keywords — including first name, last name, title, company, and school sub-fields.
These cover the vast majority of real searches. Combine Current company + Title + Location and you've essentially rebuilt the classic advanced search — see employee search for that exact workflow.
The truly advanced filters (Sales Navigator)
If you need to slice deeper than the free filters allow, that depth lives in Sales Navigator:
- Seniority level (e.g. director, VP, C-suite).
- Company headcount and company type.
- Years in current position and years at company.
- Recently changed jobs, posted on LinkedIn, in the news.
- Function and groups.
These are the filters that make Sales Navigator worth its price for heavy prospectors — see whether that's you in our Sales Navigator cost breakdown.
Combine filters with Boolean for real precision
Filters narrow categories; Boolean narrows text. Together they're powerful. In the keyword or title field:
- Quotes — exact phrase:
"head of growth" - AND — both terms:
saas AND marketing - OR — either:
cto OR "vp engineering" - NOT — exclude:
sales NOT recruiter - Parentheses — group:
(cfo OR "finance director") AND manufacturing
Example: a Title field of ("head of talent" OR "head of people" OR chro) NOT (assistant) plus a Location filter and a Company headcount filter (on Sales Navigator) isolates senior HR leaders at mid-size firms in one pass.
Do more with the results, not just find them
Advanced search is brilliant at producing a precise list. The work that follows — saving everyone who qualifies, remembering who you've contacted, personalizing the first message, and following up — is where the time actually goes.
That's the part Conextly handles for LinkedIn. Run your search, and Conextly collects the matching people into an organized workspace, tracks every conversation so nothing slips, and drafts a personalized message for each — you approve every send. The precision of advanced search, minus the copy-paste-and-forget that usually follows it. See how the prospecting search works.
